Jannik Sinner Withdraws from Cincinnati Open Due to Knee Injury

Jannik Sinner, the world number one tennis player, has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open due to a right knee injury, as announced by tournament organizers on Sunday. This decision poses a setback for Sinner as he prepares for the U.S. Open later this month.

The 24-year-old Italian, who recently secured his fifth Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, had also previously withdrawn from the Canadian Open, another important event leading up to the U.S. Open. Sinner won the Cincinnati title in 2024 and was the runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz last year.

In a statement, Sinner expressed disappointment over his inability to compete, citing ongoing issues with his knee despite efforts from his medical team. His withdrawal adds to the challenges faced by the Cincinnati Open, which is also missing U.S. Open champion Alcaraz due to a wrist injury. The Cincinnati Open main draw is set to begin on August 13, with the U.S. Open starting on August 30.
