Jarrod Harbrow Launches First Nations Sports Academy on Gold Coast
Jarrod Harbrow, a former defender for the Gold Coast and Western Bulldogs, has launched the First Nations Sports Academy on the Gold Coast to mentor young Indigenous athletes aged 14 to 24.
Recognizing a gap in support for emerging athletes, Harbrow aims to provide resources and guidance to help them navigate their sports careers. The academy will focus on life skills and personal development rather than on-field performance, offering workshops and access to professionals such as career counselors and nutritionists.
The program will accept 10 to 12 athletes for a 12-month period, with meetings and workshops scheduled monthly. Harbrow, who also serves as the Indigenous Programs Coordinator for the Gold Coast Suns, emphasizes the importance of supporting young athletes beyond just their athletic abilities.
