Jay Rodgers of Penn State Basketball Charged with DUI

Penn State men's basketball point guard Jay Rodgers has been charged with driving under the influence after a near-collision incident in downtown State College on June 21. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when Rodgers allegedly almost crashed into a motorcycle after leaving a dance club.

According to police reports, Rodgers exhibited signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and a strong smell of alcohol. He declined to take a preliminary breath test and refused blood testing, citing advice from his parents and coaches. The Penn State Athletic Department stated that such guidance is not communicated to athletes.

Rodgers faces multiple charges, including a misdemeanor for DUI and obstructing law enforcement. His preliminary hearing is set for September 9, just two months before the basketball season begins. The redshirt senior is expected to be the starting point guard for the Nittany Lions this season.
