Jayden Daniels Criticized for Legal Notice to LSU Over Number Rights

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, who previously wore No. 5 at LSU, has drawn criticism after sending a legal notice to the university regarding the use of his name, image, and likeness. This action follows LSU's decision to allow cornerback DJ Pickett to wear the number, which Daniels believes should be preserved as part of his legacy.

On August 5, Daniels' attorney issued the notice, which could potentially lead to LSU relinquishing his NIL rights, thereby preventing the university from promoting his achievements, including his Heisman Trophy win in 2023. Former NFL player Geoff Schwartz publicly questioned the decision, suggesting it was poorly advised.

The Daniels family expressed disappointment over LSU's choice to assign No. 5 to another player, stating they felt disrespected and believed the number should honor Jayden's contributions to the university. Pickett, who previously wore No. 3, will don No. 5 for the first time since Daniels' historic season.
