Jayden Daniels Expresses Discontent Over LSU's Jersey Decision

Jayden Daniels has expressed his dissatisfaction with LSU's decision to permit DJ Pickett to wear the No. 5 jersey, which Daniels previously wore during his time at the university from 2022 to 2023. An attorney representing Daniels sent a letter to LSU, stating that the school can no longer use his name, image, or likeness in promotional materials due to this decision.

The Daniels family feels disrespected by LSU's choice, believing that the number should be honored in recognition of Daniels's contributions to the program. Although Daniels did not lead LSU to a national title, he won the Heisman Trophy, a distinction not achieved by any LSU player since 2019.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly had initially promised Pickett the No. 5 jersey during recruitment but later retracted that promise. Pickett, who wore No. 3 last season, has now been given the number he was promised and has expressed his intention to keep it. Daniels, meanwhile, has shifted his focus to training camp and hopes for a private resolution to the matter.
