Jayden Daniels Issues Cease and Desist to LSU Over No. 5 Jersey

Jayden Daniels has raised concerns over LSU's decision to assign his No. 5 jersey to cornerback DJ Pickett. An attorney representing Daniels sent a cease-and-desist letter to LSU's athletic director on August 5, stating that the university is no longer permitted to use his name, image, and likeness.

The letter references Daniels' NIL agreement with LSU, which allowed the school to utilize his likeness for 180 days following his final college game. Daniels' representatives expressed disappointment over the decision, believing that his jersey number would remain a significant part of his legacy after his successful tenure at LSU, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 2023.

Although Daniels' No. 5 had not been worn since his departure for the NFL, it has not been officially retired. Pickett, who previously wore No. 3, was promised No. 5 during his recruitment. LSU coach Lane Kiffin supported this promise, while former coach Brian Kelly noted he refrained from assigning the number without Daniels' consent. Despite the controversy, Daniels retains a strong fan base at LSU, although the situation could affect his relationship with the university.
