Jeff Bezos-Backed Consortium Acquires Minority Stake in Liverpool
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has confirmed the sale of approximately one-third of Liverpool FC to a consortium that includes Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. The deal, which marks Bezos's entry into sports ownership, is led by Amit Bhatia, who is related to steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and previously held shares in Queens Park Rangers.
This investment values Liverpool at around £6 billion, making it one of the most lucrative deals in sports history. While Bezos will not join the club's board, Bhatia will serve as vice-chair. FSG retains majority ownership and operational control of the club.
FSG stated that the partnership aims to support Liverpool's long-term growth by leveraging expertise from various sectors. The consortium's involvement is seen as a strategic move to enhance the club's objectives without altering its current leadership or financial strategies.
