Jeff Bezos-Backed Consortium Acquires Minority Stake in Liverpool
Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has confirmed the sale of a minority stake in Liverpool to a consortium led by Amit Bhatia, which includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. This agreement marks Bezos's entry into sports ownership, although he will not join the club's board.
The consortium is acquiring around 30 percent of the club, valuing Liverpool at over £6 billion. Bhatia, who is the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, has a background in investment banking and manages AyBe Capital, an investment firm.
FSG retains majority ownership and operational control of Liverpool, emphasizing that the investment aims to support the club's long-term growth without altering its leadership or transfer strategy. The deal is seen as a partnership that aligns with Liverpool's established objectives.
