Jemima Montag Claims Gold in 10,000m Walk at Commonwealth Games
Jemima Montag won the gold medal in the 10,000m race walk at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, employing a strategy that she described as 'selfish'. During the race, her teammate Lizzy McMillen set the pace for the majority of the event.
Montag and McMillen, both representing Australia, began the race together, but Montag remained behind McMillen for nearly 23 laps before making her decisive move. McMillen expressed her frustration at having to lead alone, particularly in the windy conditions, while Montag acknowledged the competitive nature of the event.
Despite their teamwork in training, Montag emphasized the individual aspect of the race, stating that competitors must prioritize their own performance. The bronze medal was claimed by Bec Henderson, who noted that each athlete had different racing strategies, which contributed to their successful podium sweep.
