Jerry Sandusky's Hearing Set to Proceed After Federal Relief Request Denied

Jerry Sandusky's evidentiary hearing is scheduled to take place on September 8 in the Court of Common Pleas of Centre County, following a denial of his request to transfer the case to federal court. The hearing is set for 9:30 a.m.

On September 3, Sandusky and his legal team filed a motion to withdraw from the hearing while seeking federal relief, which was rejected during a status conference. This federal relief would have enabled Sandusky to contest the legality of his incarceration based on federal constitutional rights.

The upcoming hearing was prompted by a new affidavit from Ryan Rittmeyer, known as Victim 10 in Sandusky's 2012 trial, who has since challenged his earlier testimony regarding abuse. Rittmeyer now claims he lacked a clear memory of the incidents during his initial police interview and alleges coercion from investigators. The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General has expressed skepticism regarding Rittmeyer's recantation. Sandusky's legal team has also filed an amended petition raising issues of prosecutorial misconduct and inconsistencies among accusers.
