Jer’Zhan Newton's Return from Pectoral Surgery Remains Uncertain
Jer’Zhan Newton, a defensive tackle for the Commanders, is currently recovering from pectoral surgery, and head coach Dan Quinn has stated that there is no clear timetable for his return.
Typically, recovery from a torn pectoral muscle can take around three to four months, but this varies based on the individual and the specifics of the injury. Newton, who is 23 years old, was a consensus All-American in 2023 and was selected by the Commanders as the No. 36 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
He signed a four-year rookie contract valued at nearly $9.76 million, which includes a signing bonus of approximately $3.92 million. In the 2025 season, Newton participated in 17 games, starting in two, and recorded 38 tackles, five sacks, one forced fumble, and four tackles for loss.
