Jets Defense Excels in Turnover Battle Despite Low Interception Count
The New York Jets' defense has been effective in creating turnovers this season, achieving a league-high seven fumble recoveries despite recording only one interception, which ties for the lowest in the NFL. This interception, made by Minkah Fitzpatrick against Chicago's Tyson Bagent, ended a record drought of 20 games without one.
Last season, the Jets managed just four fumble recoveries, but they have already surpassed that total with ten forced fumbles this year. Their turnover margin stands at plus-four, a significant improvement from last season's minus-19.
Defensive coordinator Brian Duker noted that the players are embracing their roles and feeding off each other's successes. In a recent game against the Patriots, linebacker Jamien Sherwood notably chased down a receiver to force a fumble, exemplifying the team's aggressive approach to defense. Additionally, Breece Hall is making progress towards returning from injury, while rookie Omar Cooper Jr. was recognized as the NFL Rookie of the Week for his performance against the Patriots.
