Jim Crowley Retires from Racing After Serious Injury

Jim Crowley, a former champion jockey, has officially retired from racing 10 months after sustaining serious injuries in a fall at York. He made the announcement during the Glorious Goodwood meeting, reflecting on a career that began 20 years ago.

Crowley, 48, was injured in September when his horse, Almeraq, fell after clipping heels with another horse, resulting in multiple operations on his pelvis and legs. He expressed that returning to the level required for racing was not possible following his accident.

Throughout his career, Crowley achieved 29 Group One wins and was the champion jockey in 2016. He began as a National Hunt jockey before transitioning to Flat racing, where he enjoyed significant success. Crowley plans to remain involved in the sport, aspiring to become a trainer. Shadwell Stud, for whom he was the retained rider, expressed gratitude for his contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors.
