Jim Harbaugh Evaluates Backup Quarterback Competition for Chargers
Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh is currently evaluating the competition for the backup quarterback role behind Justin Herbert as the regular season approaches.
Following a recent loss to the 49ers, Harbaugh noted that both Trey Lance and DJ Uiagalelei are closely matched, with neither player having distinguished themselves in the race for QB2. Uiagalelei completed seven of 15 passes for 80 yards and one touchdown, while Lance completed 10 of 16 passes for 73 yards without a touchdown, both avoiding turnovers. Lance showcased his athleticism with a notable 37-yard run, but Harbaugh expressed concerns about his overall development as a quarterback.
Harbaugh also expressed disappointment with the offensive performance, citing issues such as penalties for illegal formations and motion violations that complicated the evaluation of the quarterbacks.
