Jim Leonhard Calls for Improvement from Bills Defense
Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard is urging his team to improve after a series of disappointing performances. The defense has struggled significantly, allowing too many points and yards, particularly on fourth downs, five weeks into the season.
Leonhard expressed frustration during a Zoom call with reporters, stating that the defense's inconsistency cannot be ignored. He acknowledged the need for potential roster changes if performance does not improve. Following a narrow overtime victory against the Los Angeles Rams, where quarterback Josh Allen played a crucial role, Leonhard emphasized that relying solely on the offense is not sustainable.
The Bills' defense has faced numerous challenges, including allowing 33 first downs against the Rams, matching a record for the franchise. They have also permitted over 250 passing yards in four games this season, and their struggles on fourth downs have been notable, with opponents converting 8 of 9 attempts. Leonhard noted that the defense's high snap count is contributing to fatigue, and he plans to adopt a more aggressive approach to help the unit perform better.
