During the first quarter, McCarthy completed five of his ten pass attempts for a total of 81 yards. However, he had two significant missed opportunities, failing to connect with receiver Myles Price on the game's opening play and again on a short throw in the end zone. Additionally, McCarthy was sacked once and experienced multiple hits, leading to visible discomfort on the sidelines after his final drive.

Carson Wentz took over in the second quarter, and coach Kevin O’Connell has suggested that Wentz could potentially surpass McCarthy in the quarterback hierarchy.
