The Chilean golfer birdied four of his first five holes and reached 5 under with a birdie on the eighth hole, maintaining a bogey-free round. Niemann's performance puts him ahead of Ian Poulter and Lucas Herbert, who are tied for second place.

Niemann, 27, is aiming for his ninth individual title in LIV Golf and his second of the year. His score also helped his team, Torque GC, to a leading position at 4 under par.
