Joe Brady Critiques NFL Disciplinary Process After Franklin's Appeal Victory
Buffalo Bills coach Joe Brady raised concerns on Wednesday regarding the NFL's disciplinary procedures, particularly in light of special teams player Sam Franklin's successful appeal against a one-game suspension. The appeal was related to an allegation that Franklin had spat at an opponent during a game against the Raiders.
The NFL had announced the suspension on October 21, citing a violation of sportsmanship rules without providing concrete evidence. Franklin contested the claim, asserting that he was merely defending himself during an altercation. Following the appeal, the league reduced the punishment to a fine of $14,926 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
While Franklin will be available to play against Baltimore, starting safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson will serve a one-game suspension for a similar infraction, which he could not appeal successfully. Brady noted the difference between the two cases, emphasizing that Gardner-Johnson's actions were clearly visible on replay.
