Joe Espada Confirmed as Astros' Manager for Remainder of 2026 Season
The Houston Astros have announced that Joe Espada will remain as the team's manager for the remainder of the 2026 season. This decision comes after the Astros parted ways with general manager Dana Brown, which had raised questions about Espada's future with the team.
Owner Jim Crane confirmed Espada's position during a meeting with reporters before a game against the Yankees. Espada's contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Currently, the Astros are positioned just half a game behind the Texas Rangers in the AL West and are in contention for a Wild Card spot.
Espada, who took over managerial duties in 2024 after serving as a bench coach since 2018, led the Astros to 88 wins in his debut season. However, the team missed the playoffs last year, finishing with a record of 87-75. The Astros have made minimal roster changes this season, and the uncertainty surrounding Espada's contract adds pressure as the team aims for a playoff berth.
