Joe Gacy Reflects on WWE NXT Character Development and Vince McMahon's Intervention
Joe Gacy, a former WWE star, shared insights into the development of his character on WWE NXT, which began as a politically correct spokesperson before evolving into a darker persona as part of the Schism. He noted that his training at the Performance Center coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and he credited Shawn Michaels for conceptualizing the character.
Gacy explained that the character was intended to have unsettling undertones, which garnered significant media attention. This reaction prompted Vince McMahon to intervene, leading to Gacy being pulled from television temporarily. However, after McMahon later viewed Gacy's promo and appreciated it, he reversed his decision, allowing Gacy to continue his storyline.
Gacy also discussed the planned evolution of his character, mentioning the formation of the Schism group, which included the Grizzled Young Veterans and later Simone Johnson. He highlighted a storyline with ChaseU as a personal favorite and noted that changes in the group dynamics opened up new creative opportunities for him.
