Joe Gibbs Racing Seeks Nearly $150 Million in Damages from Spire Motorsports
Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) has increased its damage claim against Spire Motorsports to nearly $150 million, following a lawsuit involving Chris Gabehart. The trial is set to begin on February 1, after the court adjusted several pre-trial deadlines.
Initially, JGR sought $8 million from each defendant, but after nine months of legal proceedings, the claim has grown significantly. The damages are linked to allegations of intellectual property misappropriation and the use of proprietary data in the Cup Series.
JGR has requested a delay in pre-trial deadlines to gather additional documents obtained during discovery, while Spire contends that JGR has not complied with court orders to produce necessary documents. Judge Susan C. Rodriguez has maintained the trial date but has made some accommodations regarding expert discovery and motion deadlines.
