Joe Root achieved a historic milestone on Friday by becoming the first player to score 3,000 runs as a captain in the World Test Championship during England's opening Test against Pakistan at Headingley in Leeds.

He resumed play unbeaten on 37 after a rain-affected opening day and added the necessary runs after lunch, finishing with a total of 3,000 runs from 34 matches and 63 innings as WTC captain.
Root's performance included eight centuries and 13 fifties, with a highest score of 228 and an average of 50.13.
