Joey Barton's Assault Trial Delayed Until 2027
Joey Barton, a former professional footballer, will not go to trial this week regarding an alleged assault until next year. The 44-year-old from Widnes, Cheshire, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to Kevin Lynch, 51, at Fairway, Huyton, on March 8.
The trial was scheduled to begin this week but was postponed by Judge David Potter at Liverpool Crown Court to March 8, 2027. The incident reportedly occurred after Barton and Lynch had been drinking at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club.
Barton appeared in court on his birthday, dressed in a navy blue suit and tie, and was remanded in custody. He is set to return to court on Monday. Lynch, a former non-league football manager and founder of NexGen Academy, allegedly sustained serious injuries to his eye during the incident.
