Joey Loperfido Undergoes Hip Surgery, Delaying Spring Training
The Houston Astros have announced that outfielder Joey Loperfido underwent arthroscopic surgery to treat an impingement and labral injury in his right hip. The team did not specify a recovery timeline, but indicated that Loperfido's availability for spring training will be affected.
This surgery comes after Loperfido was previously on the injured list in early 2026 due to a quad strain. The hip issues were identified shortly after the conclusion of the season, prompting the surgical intervention.
Loperfido, who has been with the Astros since being added to their 40-man roster in April 2024, has had a fluctuating role between the majors and Triple-A. He was traded to the Blue Jays and then back to Houston, where he has struggled to establish a consistent presence. With three option seasons exhausted, he faces pressure to secure a roster spot as he approaches the 2027 season.
