Joey Manu Signs with PNG Chiefs for NRL 2028 Season
Joey Manu is set to join the PNG Chiefs for their first season in the NRL in 2028. Currently playing rugby union in France, Manu's decision was influenced by a discussion with Papua New Guinea's prime minister, James Marape.
The Chiefs will enter the open market in November, and Manu, who will be 31 when his two-year deal begins, is expected to play multiple positions including fullback and centre. His signing follows other notable players like Jarome Luai and Alex Johnston.
Manu expressed pride in representing not just Papua New Guinea but also the broader Pacific community. He highlighted the potential positive impact of the team on young Pacific Island children and acknowledged the growing popularity of rugby league in the region.
