ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Porter is contemplating the possibility of a trade or an extended holdout if he remains in the final year of his current contract. Former NFL general manager Doug Whaley discussed potential solutions on Pittsburgh sports radio, suggesting a two-year bridge deal that could align with the franchise tag value.

Whaley noted that the franchise tag for cornerbacks is projected to be around $23 million in 2027, while some players at the position are earning over $30 million annually. He emphasized that a short-term deal could benefit both Porter and the Steelers, especially since the team typically halts contract negotiations once the regular season begins.
