Johannes Liebmann Sets New World Record in Men's 1,500m Freestyle
Johannes Liebmann, a 19-year-old swimmer from Germany, has set a new world record in the men's 1,500m freestyle at the European Aquatics Championships held in France. He completed the race in 14 minutes 26.79 seconds, becoming the first swimmer to finish the event in under 14 minutes 30 seconds.
Liebmann's record-breaking performance surpassed the previous mark set by American Bobby Finke at the Paris Olympics by 3.88 seconds. During the race, Liebmann maintained a strong pace and felt encouraged by the crowd's support, which motivated him in the final stretch.
On the same day, American swimmer Kate Douglass also made headlines by reclaiming the women's 50 metres freestyle world record with a time of 23.49 seconds at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine, California.
