The concept for the tournament has been in consideration for several years, inspired by matches involving NXT wrestlers like Oba Femi, Je'Von Evans, and Sol Ruca, who were called up to the main roster after their performances at Saturday Night's Main Event. The tournament is rumored to be scheduled for December 12, but the venue has not yet been announced.
