John Cena's WWE Contract Status Clarified

John Cena remains under contract with WWE as an ambassador, despite his retirement from wrestling and recent appearances.

Nearly eight months after officially retiring from wrestling, John Cena has clarified his status with WWE. Despite a few on-screen appearances since his last match against GUNTHER at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event in December 2025, Cena has reiterated his commitment to retirement, stating that it would be financially unwise for promoters to attempt to bring him back.

According to Sean Ross Sapp from Fightful Select, Cena is still under contract with WWE in a non-wrestling role, having signed a multi-year deal as a WWE ambassador. This contract prevents him from working with other wrestling promotions, including AEW, even if they were to express interest in having him return to the ring.
