John Lennon Statue on Penny Lane Expected to Fetch £100,000 at Auction

A life-size statue of John Lennon, positioned outside St Barnabas Church on Penny Lane in Liverpool, is slated for auction with an estimated value of up to £100,000. The bronze sculpture, crafted by the late artist Laura Lian, has been on display since August 2022 and will be replaced by a replica following the auction.

The statue, which stands nearly 6 feet tall, features Lennon leaning against a peace symbol inscribed with the word 'Imagine.' It is made of bronze with a green patina and rests on a bronze and steel base. Omega Auctions will conduct the auction on September 29, with estimates ranging from £70,000 to £100,000.

This statue has become a recognizable landmark for Beatles fans, many of whom have taken photographs with it. Initially intended for a six-month display, it has remained at the site longer due to its popularity. The statue was previously exhibited at various locations, including Glastonbury and Amsterdam, and has faced challenges, including damage and theft of its bronze glasses in December 2022.
