John Mateer Reflects on Friendship with Terry Bradshaw
Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer has developed a friendship with Pro Football Hall of Famer Terry Bradshaw, whom he met at a Dallas card show. Their relationship began unexpectedly as they engaged in playful banter, leading to regular communication through texts and calls.
Mateer, who transferred to Oklahoma after three years at Washington State, had a notable season where he threw for 2,885 yards and 14 touchdowns. Despite suffering a broken bone in his throwing hand during the 2025 campaign, he contributed to the Sooners' 10-2 record and their appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Reflecting on his injury, Mateer emphasized the importance of mental resilience, stating that his performance issues were not solely due to his physical condition. He started the season strong, leading Oklahoma to a significant victory over UTEP.
