Johnny Newton Undergoes Surgery, Expected to Miss Significant Time
Defensive tackle Johnny Newton of the Commanders is set to miss a considerable amount of time following surgery for a torn pectoral muscle. This decision came after Newton consulted with a specialist in New York regarding his injury.
Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the surgery during a press conference, although he did not provide a specific timeline for Newton's recovery. The 2024 second-round draft pick had a productive season last year, recording 38 tackles, five sacks, and one forced fumble while participating in all games.
The Commanders' defensive line will continue to feature players such as Daron Payne, Tim Settle, Javon Kinlaw, Shy Tuttle, Charles Omenihu, and Deatrich Wise in Newton's absence.
