Jon Gruden Makes Broadcast Return for Buccaneers' Preseason Game
Jon Gruden made his return to the broadcast booth for the first time since 2018 during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. This marked Gruden's first appearance in the booth since he left Monday Night Football to coach the Oakland Raiders.
The game, which the Buccaneers won 16-15, featured Gruden alongside Hall of Famer Ronde Barber. Gruden expressed his nervousness about returning to the booth, emphasizing the significance of working with Barber.
Gruden filled in for regular play-by-play announcer Chris Myers, who was unavailable due to other commitments. The broadcast lacked traditional play-by-play commentary, with Barber taking on most of the responsibilities. The duo's commentary style resembled the informal approach of the ManningCast, focusing on analysis rather than strict play-by-play narration.
Gruden's coaching career faced challenges after he resigned from the Raiders in 2021 following the emergence of controversial emails. He is currently involved in an ongoing lawsuit against the NFL, with a jury trial scheduled for May 2027.
