Jon Jones Shows Interest in UFC Return After Tom Aspinall Vacates Heavyweight Title
Jon Jones has indicated a desire to return to the UFC after Tom Aspinall vacated the heavyweight title due to ongoing injuries. Aspinall's decision came after he re-injured himself during training, leading to the cancellation of a planned rematch with Ciryl Gane at UFC 334.
Jones had previously avoided a fight with Aspinall, even declining a $30 million offer from the UFC. Following his retirement in April, Aspinall was upgraded to the undisputed heavyweight champion. However, according to Gable Steveson, a teammate of Jones, Aspinall's title vacation has reignited Jones's interest in returning to the octagon.
While Steveson believes Jones is capable of competing at a high level, it remains uncertain whether UFC president Dana White would support Jones's comeback at this time. With Aspinall's departure, Ciryl Gane is now the undisputed champion and has received multiple calls for his first title defense.
