Jonathan Brownlee and Sam Appleton Announce Retirement from Triathlon

Jonathan Brownlee, a three-time Olympic medalist, has announced his retirement from professional triathlon ahead of the Supertri Pro Series Final, which was expected to be his last race. Brownlee, who has enjoyed a successful career including multiple world titles and Olympic medals, will now focus on promoting the sport through the Supertri series.

Alongside his brother Alistair, Brownlee has been a significant figure in triathlon, inspiring many through their foundation that has introduced over 100,000 children to the sport. He plans to lead a new Enduro race format for age-group athletes, which will mirror the professional events.

Australian triathlete Sam Appleton also announced his retirement, with his final race scheduled for December at the Patagonman event in Chile. Appleton has had a successful career, particularly in IRONMAN 70.3 events, and expressed gratitude for the experiences and friendships gained throughout his journey. The upcoming Supertri Pro Series Final features a substantial prize purse and a competitive field, including Olympic medalists and world champions.
