Jonathan David Joins Atletico Madrid on Loan from Juventus
Canadian striker Jonathan David is transferring to Atletico Madrid from Juventus on a season-long loan, as reported by soccer insider Fabrizio Romano.
The loan agreement includes a non-mandatory buy option set at 25 million Euros (approximately C$40.2 million) that can be activated at the end of the season in June 2027. David, who is 26 years old, joined Juventus prior to the 2025-26 season but faced challenges in his performance, netting only eight goals and providing five assists in 46 matches across all competitions.
His last 13 Serie A appearances yielded just one goal. David's struggles were also evident during the World Cup, where he scored a hat trick against Qatar but failed to score in Canada's other four matches. Previously, he had a successful stint with Lille in Ligue 1, scoring 109 goals and assisting 31 times in 232 games. At Atletico, he will join other Canadian players in La Liga, including Tajon Buchanan, Nathan Saliba, and Tani Oluwaseyi, who play for Villarreal.
