Jonathan Taylor Signs $44 Million Contract with Colts

Jonathan Taylor has signed a two-year contract extension worth $44 million with the Indianapolis Colts, marking a significant financial moment for star running backs. This deal, which includes $39 million guaranteed, is the largest third contract ever awarded to a running back.

Although Taylor's contract falls short of Bijan Robinson's three-year, $75 million extension signed earlier this week, it sets a precedent for future deals in the position. Taylor, who is 27 years old, has demonstrated his value over six NFL seasons, including a standout performance in 2025 where he led the league with 323 carries and 18 rushing touchdowns.

In the past two years, Taylor has accumulated 3,016 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns. His new average annual value of $22 million ranks second among running backs, just behind Robinson's $25 million. This week could potentially reshape the financial landscape for running backs, with Lions star Jahmyr Gibbs expected to negotiate a new deal soon.
