Jonnu Smith Expresses Interest in Returning to Miami Dolphins
As the 2026 NFL season approaches, former Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith is exploring his options as a free agent. Following a disappointing 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Smith has reportedly expressed a desire to return to Miami.
Sportscaster Josh Moser mentioned on the DolphinsTalk Podcast that Smith is keen on rejoining the Dolphins, where he previously had a standout season in 2024. During that year, he achieved career highs with 88 receptions, 884 receiving yards, and 55 first downs, setting multiple team records for tight ends.
However, a potential return may not mirror his successful 2024 season, as key players like wide receivers Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill, along with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, are no longer with the team. Additionally, Smith, who is approaching his 31st birthday, had a challenging 2025 season, recording only 222 receiving yards, the lowest since his rookie year.
