Jordan Palmer Advocates for Fernando Mendoza as Raiders' Starting QB
Jordan Palmer, a former NFL quarterback and quarterbacks coach, has recommended that the Las Vegas Raiders consider making rookie Fernando Mendoza their starting quarterback if he remains competitive with veteran Kirk Cousins.
Mendoza, who was selected first overall in the NFL draft after an impressive college career at Indiana, showcased his skills during a preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, completing 10 of 16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. Palmer emphasized that Mendoza's elite college performance and readiness should warrant an early start if the competition is tight.
The Raiders, who had a challenging previous season, signed Cousins to a two-year deal to mentor Mendoza. Head coach Klint Kubiak has indicated that Cousins will be the Week 1 starter, but Mendoza's recent first-team practice snaps suggest he is being evaluated closely. With two preseason games left before the regular season begins, Mendoza has the chance to solidify his position.
