Jorge Polanco to Miss Remainder of Season Due to Ankle Surgery
Mets infielder Jorge Polanco is set to undergo ankle surgery, which will keep him out for the remainder of the season. This announcement was made by manager Andy Green, following Polanco's placement on the injured list due to left ankle bursitis.
Polanco has faced ongoing injury issues throughout the season, participating in only 37 games. He signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Mets to replace former first baseman Pete Alonso but has struggled, posting a batting line of .148/.201/.230.
In response to Polanco's injury, the Mets have recalled Eric Wagaman to fill his roster spot, with Wagaman expected to contribute at first base and designated hitter. The team also brought up right-handed pitcher Chayce McDermott while sending Jack Weisenburger back to Triple-A. This season has been disappointing for Polanco, who had previously enjoyed a successful year with the Mariners, hitting 26 home runs in 2025.
