Jorge Polanco's Season with Mets Concludes Following Ankle Surgery
The New York Mets have placed Jorge Polanco on the 10-day injured list due to left ankle bursitis, which will require season-ending surgery. Interim manager Andy Green announced that Polanco's ongoing pain has made surgery the best option for recovery.
Polanco's inaugural season with the Mets has been challenging, marked by injuries that limited him to just 14 games. After signing a two-year, $40 million contract, he struggled with a wrist contusion that sidelined him for 83 days, and his batting average plummeted to .179 before his return in July. Following his comeback, he managed only a .127 average in 23 games.
Despite his limited playtime, Polanco's performance was rated negatively in terms of wins above replacement. He is expected to recover in time for spring training in February 2027, while Christopher Morel is anticipated to take over his at-bats.
