Jose Altuve Leaves Game After Foot Injury

Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve exited the game against the San Francisco Giants after being hit on the foot by a pitch, with further evaluations planned.

Jose Altuve, the second baseman for the Houston Astros, departed from the game against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night after sustaining a foot injury from a pitch.

The Astros reported that Altuve suffered a bruised foot, and manager Joe Espada noted that imaging results were negative, with additional assessments scheduled for Wednesday. Altuve was struck by an 82-mph slider from Giants pitcher Carson Whisenhunt in the first inning but initially continued to play.

After running the bases, Altuve returned to the field for the bottom of the first inning but did not resume play in the second, being replaced by Nick Allen. In his 16th major league season, Altuve has a batting average of .240, with 13 home runs and 35 RBIs. Despite the loss to the Giants, the Astros are currently leading the AL West by half a game over Texas.
