Josh Kerr Sets Sights on 1500m World Record After Mile Victory
Josh Kerr is shifting his focus to the 1500m world record after recently breaking the mile record at the London Diamond League with a time of 3:42.66. This achievement allowed him to surpass Hicham El Guerrouj’s long-standing mile record.
After his victory, Kerr celebrated modestly and quickly began contemplating the 1500m record, which has remained unbroken since 1998. He noted that he had previously recorded a time of 3:27.70 in the 1500m during his mile race, marking it as one of the fastest splits in history.
While Kerr is enthusiastic about the possibility of pursuing the 1500m record, he acknowledged that no formal plans have been established yet. His coach, Danny Mackey, supports the ambition but also understands if Kerr opts for a break instead. Kerr expressed confidence that achieving a time of 3:25 in the 1500m could be feasible this season, potentially in upcoming Diamond League events.
