Josh Reed Returns to Penn State Basketball for Fifth Year

Penn State men's basketball forward Josh Reed is set to return for the upcoming season after being granted a fifth year of eligibility, as announced by the team.

This decision follows a preliminary injunction granted by a U.S. District Judge, which allows athletes from the high school class of 2022 who have exhausted their fourth season of eligibility to compete in the 2026-27 season. Reed was part of a lawsuit seeking inclusion in the NCAA's new eligibility model.

During the 2025-26 season, Reed played 32 games for the Nittany Lions, starting 31 and averaging 11.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, while leading the team with an 87% free-throw shooting percentage. His return adds valuable experience to a roster that was the youngest in Power Four basketball last season.
