Josh Simmons Placed on Injured Reserve by Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs have announced that left tackle Josh Simmons will be placed on injured reserve, extending his absence from the team. This decision was confirmed by the team's head trainer, Rick Burkholder.
Simmons has been struggling with a bulging disc in his lower back and has not participated in any practices this season. He was recently listed as out due to his back injury and personal reasons, which Burkholder clarified was related to the decision to place him on injured reserve. Although Simmons does not require surgery, he needs additional time to recover.
Simmons, who was the Chiefs' first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, had a challenging rookie season, playing only eight games due to personal issues and a wrist injury. In his absence, undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson has stepped in as a starter, allowing 12 pressures in the first five games, ranking 30th among qualified tackles.
