Josh Simmons Removed from Chiefs Meeting by Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes
Josh Simmons, the left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs, was asked to leave a team meeting by head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Wednesday, just one day before he was placed on injured reserve.
The situation arose when Simmons was sitting with his feet up, prompting Reid to request that he sit upright. Simmons explained that his posture was due to a back injury, but Reid suggested he seek treatment if he could not sit properly. Following a back-and-forth exchange, Mahomes advised Simmons to leave the meeting to avoid further disruption.
Simmons later expressed regret to Reid and team leaders for the incident. On the injury report, the Chiefs noted that Simmons did not practice due to a combination of personal reasons and his back injury. The team had drafted Simmons in the first round last year, hoping he would be a long-term protector for Mahomes, but he has only participated in eight games and has missed 14 since then. He has not practiced since August, with the earliest potential return being in Week 11 against the Cardinals.
