Josh Tarling to Compete in Vuelta a Espana Following Brother's Tragic Death
Josh Tarling, aged 22, is set to compete in the Vuelta a Espana starting on Saturday, following the tragic death of his younger brother Finlay, who was killed in a collision during the Volta a Portugal last Friday.
Finlay, 19, lost his life in a high-speed accident involving a van that entered the race route during the eighth stage of the event. Josh, a time trial specialist, will race for his team Netcompany Ineos, with support from fellow Welsh cyclist and former Tour de France champion Geraint Thomas, who noted that the decision to participate was made by Josh.
In the wake of Finlay's death, there have been increasing calls for enhanced safety measures in cycling, echoed by various figures in the sport, including Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebes. The Vuelta a Espana is scheduled to take place from August 22 to September 13.
