Judd Trump Eliminated in First Round of China Open

Judd Trump, the world number one in snooker, experienced a surprising first-round exit at the China Open on Sunday, losing to Thailand's Noppon Saengkham.

Saengkham, ranked 45th globally, secured a 6-3 victory, advancing to the second round where he will compete against either Ronnie O'Sullivan or Jackson Page. Trump managed to equalize after trailing by two frames, but Saengkham regained control, winning three consecutive frames, including a match-high break of 120.

This tournament marks the return of the China Open to the World Snooker Tour after a hiatus since 2019, now held in Taiyuan, located 310 miles southwest of Beijing. Trump, who previously won the event in 2011 and 2016, must win the upcoming Wuhan Open to maintain his top ranking, with Zhao Xintong poised to potentially overtake him.
