Justice Department Investigates TV Networks Over Trump Administration Boycott
The US Justice Department announced on Saturday that it is investigating whether television networks breached federal antitrust laws due to their boycott of White House coverage. This boycott followed the administration's decision to revoke credentials for reporters from three news organizations, including CNN.
The networks involved in the investigation include ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, and Fox News. A spokesperson for the Justice Department indicated that group boycotts among commercial competitors could potentially violate the Sherman Act, and the Antitrust Division is assessing whether these news organizations have indeed contravened antitrust laws.
This inquiry is part of ongoing tensions between the Trump administration and major media outlets. Following the revocation of credentials on September 19, the affected networks collectively suspended coverage in solidarity. Although the White House reinstated the credentials on September 24 after a court ruling deemed the ban likely unconstitutional, disputes regarding access to presidential events have persisted.
