Justin Senzer Becomes Penn State's New Drum Major
Justin Senzer has been appointed as the new drum major for Penn State's Blue Band, marking a significant milestone in his musical journey. Originally from Marietta, Georgia, Senzer's path to this prestigious role was not straightforward, as he almost did not audition for it.
His musical career began in sixth grade when he switched from trombone to trumpet to emulate his father, a Penn State alumnus. Although he initially hesitated to join the marching band in high school, he eventually did so during his senior year, which significantly influenced his decision to attend Penn State. Despite initial struggles to adapt to campus life, Senzer persevered and auditioned for the Blue Band, successfully earning a spot as a sophomore.
As he prepares for his senior year, Senzer has embraced the responsibilities of being a drum major, focusing on leadership and mentorship. He aims to inspire others rather than seek personal accolades, emphasizing the importance of being a positive influence in the lives of his peers.
